Graduate Fire Engineer

The Role

As a Graduate Fire Engineer, you will be part of a team inspired to make a difference. Your responsibilities will include developing fire safety strategies, reports, technical notes, letters, sketches, and all the necessary supporting calculations using the latest computer modelling software.

You will have the opportunity to undertake calculations for smoke and temperature spread, as well as more complex smoke and evacuation modelling (hand calculations, zone modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations), detailed fire dynamics and structural assessments.

You will review building designs and design elements to assess compliance whilst also designing fire solutions as part of the overall design team alongside the client, architect and Statutory Authorities.

You will have a client-facing role, including attending meetings with clients, design teams, and Statutory Authorities. You will use your knowledge of fire engineering and Building Regulations to support projects in various sectors.

About you:

Be educated to a degree level in a fire engineering discipline.

Participate in engineering training (both internal and external) to meet CPD requirements.

Have the ability to work independently or as part of a team on multiple projects with other professionals.

Have an aptitude for problem-solving.

Have excellent grammar and use of the English language.

Previous placement or work experience in a similar field is advantageous but optional.

You’ll be expected to:

Assist in designing fire solutions, reviewing building designs, and assessing compliance with fire safety regulations

Project management: Managing fire engineering projects, including the project team, budget, and progress

Client liaison: Attending meetings with clients, design teams, and approval bodies and maintaining good relations with them

Fire engineering analysis: Conducting fire engineering analysis, such as smoke modelling, radiation, and structural analysis

Fire strategy preparation: Preparing fire strategies in coordination with the engineering design team

Fire safety inspection: Inspecting and assessing fire safety management and protection measures in existing buildings and facilities

Developing, analysing, reviewing, and issuing reports
